And while Thriller Live doesn’t run through the facts of his life, you certainly get taken on a journey through music history, from Motown and blues to early indie and pop. But the real story of Thriller Live is the one behind the show. If you think you’re the world’s biggest Michael Jackson fan, think again. Way back in 1988, Adrian Grant, the man behind Thriller Live, was so taken with the singer that he launched the world’s first MJ fanzine. Within two years, it had a circulation of 25,000 people, leading to an invitation to Neverland and a lifelong friendship.
