Dreamgirls tells the story of a trio of women from Chicago, Illinois who dream of making their mark on the music world. Loosely inspired by the story of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Dreamgirls follows the rise to fame of the Dreamettes, later The Dreams. Moya Angela as Effie White, the curvaceous, opinionated lead singer of the Dreams. Eventually, as the girls start to make their way in the business they have to decide how much compromise they are willing to make to hit it big. Effie is replaced by the slimmer, more commercially appealing Deena and The Dreams hit their stride. Dreamgirls is full of glitz, glamour and show-stopping numbers such as “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” “I am Changing,” “Listen” and “One Night Only”. Karen Mav (X-Factor) and Marisha Wallace both make their West End debuts as alternates.. The show is directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier winner Casey Nicholaw (Book of Mormon, Aladdin) with a book and lyrics by Tom Eyen. Costume design by Gregg Barnes with Sets and Music by Tim Hatley and Henry Krieger respectively.
