This joyous revival of a classic Broadway musical has taken the Theatre Royal Drury Lane by storm! After originally opening on Broadway in 1980 produced by David Merrick and directed by Gower Champion, the musical won the Tony Award for Best Musical and ran for 3,486 performances to January 1989. A West End production opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 8 August 1984 and went on to win the Olivier Award for Best Musical. Featuring a score by Harry Warren and Al Dubin and book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, the musical is based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the subsequent 1933 Hollywood film adaptation of the same name. A classic backstage musical, the show follows famed director Julian Marsh as he attempts to put on a brand new musical production during the height of the Great Depression. Peggy Sawyer, an unknown chorus girl, gets her big break and goes out on the stage a “youngster” and comes back a “star”. With a classic score of musical theatre standards including “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “42nd Street” and “About a Quarter to Nine”, this heart-warming musical provides exceptional tap routines and classic comedy. This new production is directed by Mark Bramble, choreographed by Randy Skinner and will feature scenic design by Douglas W Schmidt and costume design by Roger Kirk. Comments comments...

Join Theatre Trips Kent as we travel to the heart of london to watch Wicked The Musical. When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story. Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed 1995 novel, ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, re-imagined the Land of Oz, creating a parallel universe to the familiar story written by L. Frank Baum and first published as ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz‘ in 1900. Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future.   Comments comments...

The King and I  comes to the London Palladium as director Bartlett Sher brings his Lincoln Center Theater production direct from Broadway. The show stars Kelli O’Hara as Anna and Ken Watanabe as the King, both reprising their roles from the 2015 New York run. Based on the Margaret Landon novel Anna and the King of Siam, Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote the musical for Broadway in 1951. It tells the story of a British teacher, Ana, who is hired by the King of Siam as he tried to modernise his country, but the pair’s relationship is marred by conflict throughout the musical. It features the well-known numbers “Something Wonderful”, “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, “I Have Dreamed” and “Shall We Dance?”. It opened at the St James Theatre and was expected to be a hit, which worried the writing duo. However, their worries were put to rest when Yul Brynner, who played the King, put in a show-stealing performance and Gertrude Lawrence, who originated the role of Anna, overcame illness to put in an outstanding performance. The original London production opened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in October 1953, and ran for 946 performances. The cast featured Muriel Smith, Herbert Lom, and Valerie Hobson, for whom it was her last stage role. The show has run at the London Palladium twice before. Brynner reprised the role for a run at the theatre in 1979, for which is co-star Virginia McKenna starred as Anna and won an Olivier Award. It returned in March of 2000, directed by Christopher Renshaw. ...

Set high on a hill in West Sussex, this great Castle commands the landscape with magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun. There are nearly 1,000 years of history at this great castle, situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex and built at the end of the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel. The oldest feature is the motte, an artificial mound, over 100 feet high from the dry moat, and constructed in 1068: followed by the gatehouse in 1070. Under his will, King Henry I (1068-1135) settled the Castle and lands in dower on his second wife, Adeliza of Louvain. Three years after his death she married William d’Albini II, who built the stone shell keep on the motte. King Henry II (1133-89), who built much of the oldest part of the stone Castle, in 1155 confirmed William d’Albini II as Earl of Arundel, with the Honour and Castle of Arundel.
