Our Previous Theatre Trips

Theatre Trips Kent is based in Canterbury and runs regular coach trips to great London shows. The majority of our trips are to Musicals but we also visit Opera, Concerts, Comedy events and much more. In the summer we go to theme parks and other similar attractions and have recently started trips over to France. These will be fairly regular now for simply days out, that essential stock up at Duty Free and the amazing Nausicaa Aquarium in Boulogne.

There are some great events and concerts at the O2 arena all year round that we hope to add to our trips too. We are always happy to take suggestions from our customers on trips you want to do, so please let us know if you have anything you particularly want to see or do. Our huge database of customers will now mean that an idea that starts with you and your friends could become a whole coach load and therefore ensure the best possible discounts for tickets and travel costs.

Unlike some coach and theatre trip companies, Theatre Trips Kent goes out of its way to ensure we get the highest price tickets but give them to you at the best value possible. The whole trip normally costs way less than the ticket value but still includes coach travel.

We arrive at our theatre trips in time for you to have time to relax, grab a drink or a meal at a place of your choice. Normally there is about an hour and a half to do your own thing after you get dropped off at the theatre. When the show is over the coach is ready and waiting outside to bring you straight back home, normally returning by midnight.

Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and sold her first hit, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, when she was just seventeen. By the time she reached her twenties she had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll from Aretha Franklin to the Monkees, the Drifters, to the Shirelles. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. BEAUTIFUL tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, and Locomotion. Mamma Mia is a musical that defines and refines the theatre arts and takes it up a notch to near perfection. This legendary musical is a dramatic representation of wedding chaos and confusion where there is 1 mother, 1 daughter and 3 possible dads. With a book by Catherine Johnson, Mamma Mia is a world renowned phenomenon and a mega famous hit that has penned an unprecedented history. This phenomenal show has been witnessed by more than 50 million people in 37 productions staged in over 300 cities and translated into 14 languages. Under the production credits of Judy Craymer, the show has been directed by Phyllida Lloyd. They were also the creative heads and rolling wheels behind the 2008 film version of Mamma Mia. This drama styled show stages the intriguingly interesting tale of a young girl, in search of her father at the time of her marriage. The show’s prominence is enhanced manifold by its score which is a splendid mix of a host of Abba’s timeless story-telling songs like Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All, Knowing Me Knowing You, Super Trouper and the title song Mamma Mia. As the biggest catch of the show, the inclusion of evergreen hits of ABBA, written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus makes this musical a class apart. The score in itself is worth paying multiple trips to the theatre but when it is combined with a script and specter of such magnificence, the end product is an exceptionally fabulous ...

Dating back to the 13th century, Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I. It formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of tumultuous events that changed the course of Britain’s history, monarchy and religion. Its panelled rooms house fine furniture, tapestries, antiques and what is regarded as ‘one of the best collections of Tudor portraits after the National Portrait Gallery’ by David Starkey. The Book of Hours Room beautifully illuminates two prayer books which belonged to Anne Boleyn and bear her inscriptions and signature. Today, much of what you see is the result of the remarkable efforts of William Waldorf Astor, who used his fortune to restore and extend the Castle in the early 20th century. The Astor Suite is dedicated to its more recent history, showcasing pictures and memorabilia relating to the Astor family and the Edwardian period. Hever Castle is what every child wants a castle to be: crenellated, moated and haunted. A permanent exhibition in the Long Gallery brings the 16th century to life with costumed figures illustrating key events in Anne’s life at the Castle. The Commitments, Roddy Doyle’s best-selling novel, is now live on stage for the very first time. Be the first to experience this show as it makes its World Premiere at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End this September. The show, which has been more than two years in the making, has been adapted from the novel by Booker prize winning author Doyle himself and is directed by award winning Jamie Lloyd (the man behind the recent production of Macbeth starring James McAvoy). The Commitments is the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan, who shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into an amazing live act, the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced. The show follows the journey of two members of a frustrated synthesizer band – the opening scene we find them playing but being ignored in a shop window – who turn to Jimmy, the local music expert, for help. Placing a classified advert in a music paper, Jimmy auditions a number of wannabes before finalising the new line up who he names The Commitments. The humour kicks in as the band get to know each other and their instruments, and proceed through early rehearsals for their first gig. Just as they improve and begin to get a name for themselves they combust. The backing singers are all getting off with the middle aged horn legend, the singer has entered Eurovision and the saxophone player has dangerous leaning towards a jazz career. ...

For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. From young mother to grandmother, these private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age. Relocated to the Gielgud Theatre, these seats are in the Upper circle. Adapted from Mark Haddon’s 2003 best-selling book, playwright Simon Stephens transfers all the mystery of the novel to the stage. The play follows a 15 year-old maths genius who tries to unravel the mystery of his neighbour’s murdered dog, that was found speared by a garden fork. Against his father’s orders, and in spite of his own personal limitations, Christopher sets out on a quest to discover the real truth behind the murder. Unfortunately the teen unearths more than he bargained for and eventually the secrets of his own life unravel before his very eyes. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is both a murder mystery and a tale of personal discovery for somebody on the edges of society. Reviews MICHAEL BILLINGTON “The whole thing is done with enormous flair. A Remarkable performance from Luke Treadaway captures all the hero’s zeal, obduracy and terror of tactile contact, and puns down behavioural qualities all of us, at some point, see in ourselves.” With Theatre Trips Kent the worry and hassle it removed from seeing a West End show.  Local collections and dropping off within site of the theatre our hosted coaches will get you there and back in comfort and with a hot drink if you would like. Proud and solitary, Eel Marsh House surveys the windswept reaches of the salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway. Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor, is summoned to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, the house’s sole inhabitant, unaware of the tragic secrets which lie hidden behind the shuttered windows. It is not until he glimpses a wasted young woman dressed all in black at the funeral, that a creeping sense of unease begins to take hold.  This feeling is deepened by the reluctance of the locals to talk of the woman in black – and her terrible purpose. Years later, as an old man, he recounts his experiences to an actor in a desperate attempt to exorcise the ghosts of the past. The play unfolds around the conversations of these two characters as they act out the solicitor’s experiences on Eel Marsh all those years ago. THE WOMAN IN BLACK is a gripping theatrical exploration of terror, ‘a masterpiece’ (The Guardian) that’s been thrilling audiences of all ages with its unique blend of suspense, drama and bold stagecraft. Now celebrating 25 years in the West End, THE WOMAN IN BLACK is ‘a marvellous exercise in tension, spun from perfectly paced storytelling’ (The Independent) that has enthralled over 7 million people since its original debut. Feel the power of THE WOMAN IN BLACK for yourself and experience the ‘most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter’ (The Daily Telegraph). The backing singers are all getting off with the middle aged horn legend, the singer has entered Eurovision and the saxophone player has dangerous leaning towards a jazz career. ...

The Lord Mayor’s Show has floated, rolled, trotted, marched and occasionally fought its way through 798 years of London history, surviving the black death and the blitz to arrive in the 21st century as one of the world’s best loved pageants. Thanks to the ancient and justified concerns of King John, every newly-elected Lord Mayor is required to leave the safety of the City of London, travel upriver to distant Westminster and swear loyalty to the Crown. Over the centuries this inconvenient journey became one of London’s favourite rituals. It moved from river barges to horseback and then into the magnificent State Coach, and around it grew the rowdy and joyful medieval festival that became known as the Lord Mayor’s Show. That ancient pageant is still going today. The modern procession is over three and a half miles long and fills the whole space between Bank and Aldwych from 11am until about 2.30pm, cheered by a crowd of around half a million people and watched live on the BBC by millions more. There are fewer sword fights these days but the floats are grander than ever and it’s a great day out for every generation. You are all warmly invited to come to the City of London on November the 8th and take your place in eight centuries of London history. We will take you by Coach to London and Drop off near London Bridge in Plenty of time for you to walk up and find a suitable viewing area ...

Gregory Maguire’s acclaimed 1995 novel, ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’, re-imagined the Land of Oz, creating a parallel universe to the familiar story written by L. Frank Baum and first published as ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ in 1900. Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda‘s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba‘s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. The spectacular, multi award-winning stage musical, with music and lyrics by Academy Award® winner Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, has become “the biggest thing in musicals since The Phantom of the Opera opened” (The Times). “A major hit with audiences and critics alike” (BBC News), Wicked has won over 90 international awards including the Olivier Award for Most ...

With the help of the Phantom’s ‘persuasive powers’ she soon becomes the star of the show. When she oversteps the mark, however, the masked man turns from friend to frightened monster. The Phantom Of The Opera is one of the most successful musicals of all time and celebrated its 25th anniversary with three spectacular sell-out performances at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2011. Now in its 26th record-breaking year, this multi-award winning musical continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s theatre in London’s West End, after more than 10,000 performances. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerising score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night. In addition to The Music Of The Night and the title number, The Phantom Of The Opera includes the songs All I Ask Of You, Think Of Me and The Point Of No Return. Over 130 cast and crew are involved in the production and each performance has 230 costume changes. If you think you know the Wicked Witch of the West, think again… When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story.

THE VERY LAST CHANCE TO SEE – We Will Rock You, Dominion Theatre, London Staged at London’s Dominion Theatre, We Will Rock You celebrated its tenth anniversary in May 2012. Packed full of Queen’s iconic hits, experiencing We Will Rock You live on stage is simply unforgettable. We Will Rock You opened at The Dominion Theatre on 12 May 2002, and has won the Olivier Audience Award for Most Popular Show, as well as several Whatsonstage.com awards. We Will Rock You sees the Dominion Theatre transformed into the battle ground between The Resistance and Planet Mall’s Ga Ga World, a safe place full of boy bands and girl bands, where instruments are banned and music is mass produced. The Resistance want to rock. They reminisce about the Rhapsody; a time when musicians formed their own bands and wrote their own songs. Inspired by the music of Queen, directed by Ben Elton, with music supervision by Brian May, Roger Taylor & Miek Dixon, this search for the hairy guitar god Galileo will have you out of your seats and laughing along from start to finish. “The songs will have even the most curmudgeonly punter tapping their feet and remind you just how fabulous Queen were.” – The Independent “An Unmissable event and a sumptuous piece of musical theatre. The Show Must Go On, and on” – Capital Radio, October 2002 Howard Abernethy “The spectacular West End musical” – Daily Mirror “There was wild applause at the climax of the show….and it ...

The backing singers are all getting off with the middle aged horn legend, the singer has entered Eurovision and the saxophone player has dangerous leaning towards a jazz career. ...

If you think you know the Wicked Witch of the West, think again… When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s romantic musical The Phantom Of The Opera is based on Gaston Leroux’s 1911 gothic novel of life beneath the stage of the Paris Opera House. A mysterious masked man, whose spectral presence casts a shadow over the Paris Opera House, falls in love with Christine Daaé, a singer from the opera’s chorus. Terrifically entertaining.” Metro – Claire Allfree “An unstoppable hit. Damnably clever and sharp.” Daily Telegraph – Charles Spencer “I absolutely loved it. A Remarkable performance from Luke Treadaway captures all the hero’s zeal, obduracy and terror of tactile contact, and puns down behavioural qualities all of us,at some point, see in ourselves.” Comments comments...
